Student Advisory Board

Umang Dhingra is a senior Karsh International Scholar at Duke, originally from New Delhi, India. She is double-majoring in Psychology and Sociology and pursuing a Child and Family Policy certificate. In her time at Duke, she has won thousands of dollars in grants, fellowships, and awards to fund her research in rural Uganda, Washington D.C., and the University of Cambridge. At Duke, she is currently involved in the Psychology Majors' Union, where she serves as president, Duke Debate (former Internal Vice President), the Chronicle (Opinion Columnist), and Duke Players. Umang conducts research at the Early Childhood Cognition Lab and collaborates independently with researchers at Arkansas Tech. She is currently writing a sociology senior thesis on welfare state policy and hopes to pursue graduate training in demography after Duke. Beyond school, Umang enjoys listening to music, spending time with her friends, and going to the gym.
