Marta comes to the ARC from Duke’s Graduate School where she worked as program coordinator for the English for International Students Program. In this role, she taught international students, provided workshops for international populations from various programs, and managed administrative components of the program. Prior to this, she taught at Durham Technical Community College as an instructor of Academic English as a Foreign Language. Marta also served in numerous other roles including as a research scientist, interpreter, and language consultant. She also founded the Czech and Slovak School of North Carolina, a nonprofit organization promoting the Czech and Slovak languages and cultures in the state.
Marta holds a Ph.D. in Education: Culture, Curriculum and Change Program with emphasis in Language Diversity from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a M.A. in Public and Social Policy; and a B.A. in Sociology from Charles University in the Czech Republic.
