Benita Besa is a student in Duke University’s Class of 2027, pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Economics, with a certificate in Philosophy, Politics & Economics. Her favorite part about being in tech is getting to build tools that solve real-world problems. As an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in Duke’s Computer Science department, she loves mentoring students and helping them unlock “aha” moments in labs and office hours.
Born in the DRC and raised with a deep appreciation for how technology and economics shape opportunity, Benita’s journey has included Software Engineering Internships at Amazon, conducting healthcare data equity research with MIT Lab for Computational Physiology, and volunteering with CS Sidekicks and Femmes+ hackathon on campus. Outside the classroom, she is someone who finds joy in African dance, live music, and the creativity of resale fashion. She’s always looking for new ways to merge community, tech, and impact.
