Student Advisory Board Member

Nina Castro Alves is an OUE Student Advisory Board Member in the Class of 2027 pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. Growing up in Miami, Florida, they developed a passion for marshlands, marine ecosystems, and cartography. As a Rachel Carson Scholar, Nina researches wetlands and coastal resilience, using spatial analysis to understand shifting landscapes. On campus, they are involved in Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Bass Connections, Duke Smart Home, Duke Climate Coalition, and Round Table SLG. In their free time, they enjoy being outdoors, video-editing, art history, and multimedia creation.

As a member of the Student Advisory Board, Nina is also committed to understanding the shifting landscapes and experiences of students at Duke and advocating for their needs.
