  • I work in photonics - I make lasers so small that 10 could fit on the head of a pin. I also work in medical instruments using optics, and I hold 6 patents.

  • I am a proponent of women and under-represented groups in STEM, and a co-founder of the Triangle Women in STEM.

  • I was Chair of the Academic Council, which is the Duke faculty senate.

  • All of my children (two) have attended Duke.

  • I like to hike and to travel and I have completed 4 sprint triathlons.

  • My husband and I own a small farm where we grow flowers, fruit, and vegetables.
