Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
Janie Long is the Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Director of the Academic Resource Center. Janie works closely with Dean Steve Nowicki and other senior administrators from schools, departments, and administrative units to positively influence all aspects of undergraduate education at Duke. She is also responsible for the administrative and financial management of the office. Long received her BA from Lenior-Rhyne, her master’s degree from Duke, and her Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. She was an administrator and taught for seventeen years in master’s and doctoral programs before coming to back to Duke as the Director of the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity. Affiliated faculty in Women’s Studies, Janie teaches one course per year and is a pre-major advisor. Janie has made numerous national and international presentations and has also published more than 50 articles and book chapters. Away from the office Janie enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, gardening, cooking, and long walks on the beach.
